On the 1st of August 2012, TAFE NSW SWSi and Allied Risk Solutions launched their partnership at an Industry Forum held at Bankstown Sports Club entitled “3 Strikes You’re Out!”.
The forum was about:
- bringing together various stakeholders involved in the Club Industry
- reviewing challenges and opportunities facing Clubs today
- providing clubs with clear strategies to move forward in their staff development, training and risk management portfolios
It is important to have these industry related forums so that:managers can:
- have access to relevant and timely information
- be provided with options to better manage training and risk requirements at their venue
- network with industry related specialists who can provide on-going support
- consider investing in long term partnerships with industry experts
- consider opportunities to take on better business practises, meeting compliance requirements and being better prepared for legislative directions.
There were a range of presenters at the 3 Strikes You’re Out! Forum:
Stephen Ollerenshaw – Service Skills Council
He discussed how training packages being developed within the industry are currently under review and how they are seeking industry feedback. Stephen also provided additional information on Workforce development funds available for club training ventures.
Danny White – State Training Services
Danny spoke specifically about apprenticeships and traineeships for both new and existing worker trainees. He explained the changes to funding arrangements in the Strategic Skills Program (SSP) and options to upskill the workforce in the Hospitality industry.
Sean Goodchild – Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing
Sean presented legislative requirements that have been introduced by the NSW Government in order to better manage the industry related to alcohol incidents. He discussed the Violent Venues Scheme and more recently the 3 Strikes Disciplinary Scheme introduced in January 2012.
Sam Ekinci – Allied Risk
Sam presented approaches that licensed premises can implement in order to minimise risks associated with the Governments approach against Clubs.
Anthony Trimachi – Clubs NSW
Anthony reviewed the Clubs industry in NSW and its relationship to the legislation. He noted statistical information that shows that Clubs are safer than they have ever been before.
The partnership between Allied Risk and TAFE NSW SWSi (South Western Sydney Institute) allows our combined clients an opportunity to deal with a group that can provide a one stop shop for all their training requirements.
TAFE NSW SWSi is a very large, experienced RTO (Registered Training Organisation), nationally recognised and accredited, with a huge number of courses – from Diplomas, Certificates to short courses.
TAFE actively services the workforce development needs of a wide range of businesses and industries, supporting some of Australia’s largest companies to medium and small enterprises.
Allied Risk specialise in management consulting using industry centric specialists as trainers for the Clubs industry.
Both groups have common customers but offer different services that complement each other and through this partnership we are able to better serve the requirements of our customers.
The success of the forum was in the quality of the presentations and in those that attended, who took away best practice information on a range of issues that can impact on their funding, training and development and risk management strategies.
